Diacritics-

କ କା କି କୀ କୁ କୂ କୃ କୄ କୢ କୣ କେ(େକ) କୈ(େକୖ) କୋ(େକା) କୌ(େକୗ)

Odia language is quite similar to Hindi. If you are familiar with Hindi language, learning Odia
would be easy.

Many words have similar meanings, with a slight variation in pronunciation. Some examples
are-

 phool- phula (Flower)


 rastaa- raastaa (Road)
 ghar- ghara (Home)
 andaa- andaa (Egg)
 kaagaz- kaagaz (Paper)
 kalam- kalam (Pen)
 sundar- sundar (Beautiful)
Odia has a letter ଳ which is similar to the Hindi letter ल. However, the pronunciation is
markedly different.

 nal- nala (Tap)


 bal- bala (Strength)
 hal- hala (Plough)
The letter ଲ in Odia sounds almost like ल in Hindi.

 lambaa- lambaa (Long)


 laddu लड्डू- ladu ଲଡ଼ୁ (a kind of sweet)
Some Odia and Hindi words have different yet similar letters.

 bana ବଣ- वन van (Forest)


 କଣ kana- कोना kona (Corner)
 ଯୁଗ juga- यु ग yug (Era)
